The exhibition takes visitors from prehistory to the present in a simple and understandable fashion.

It presents information on different levels and showcases original items, replicas, interactive content and multimedia presentations, which are also adapted for children and people with special needs. The location for the exhibition is perfect, as Jože Plečnik (1872-1952) said that the Ljubljana Castle is the Slovenian Acropolis.

Contents and audio guides at the exhibition are available in Slovene, English, German, Italian, French and Russian.

The exhibition is divided into six parts along the historical timeline: prehistory and the Roman period, the Middle and the Early Modern Ages, the 19th century and WWI, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and WWII, the socialist Yugoslavia and the independent Slovenia.

It presents the societies of the different periods, the state formations, the political, social and economic circumstances, migrations, transport, culture, architecture and the everyday life.

Guided tour of the exhibtion is possible by prior arrangement. Because the space is somewhat limitting, the maximum number of persons per group is 20. In the case of a larger group we recommend to our guests a combination of the guided tour with other programs we offer.
